PIoneer day 2016
The La Crete Agricultural Society and the museum committee of the La Crete Mennonite Heritage Village to thank the community volunteers and sponsors that helped make Pioneer Day a success.
The purpose of the event is to demonstrate the lifestyle and skills of our settlers in the community’s developmental years.
Based on admission we had about 750 people attend the event.
The day started with pancake breakfast. A big thank to the breakfast cooks and to La Crete Co-op who sponsored $500 towards the breakfast. Breakfast was followed by a parade through the village, and what a beautiful parade it was. Thank you to all who participated!
Locals provided the crowd with cultural foods like waffles, vareniki, corn on the cob, full rull kuchen, roasted ham sandwiches, and mini doughnuts.
The John & Mary Wiebe family and the Peters family provided music over lunch over.
Volunteers helped out in the store, school, and houses. Children enjoyed icing cream cookies in the school house.
The Kids’ Loonie Hunt at 1:00 P.M. was sponsored by ATB Financial. THANK YOU! The children’s events are a great way to get the next generation familiar with the museum village. One day the responsibility of the museum operations will be passed down to them.
The museum committee demonstrated binding wheat sheaves, threshing, sawing logs, and shingle making before a shower put an end to the demonstrations.
Brandon Froese and Herman Peters provided a roping and branding demonstration at the rodeo grounds after the museum demonstrations.
